When you receive an email which is not authenticated, a banner is displayed with the following message:
Warning: The message is not signed with a DKIM signature and it could be a spam. The message was sent from a non-trusted source as defined by their SPF and it could be spoofed.
What is an Email Authentication?
Domain Authentication is a system to verify the email from the point of its origin by validating the email sender.
Different methods for authenticating an email domain exist, like:
- DKIM (Domain Key Identified Mail)
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework)
- DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance)
When a domain email is not authenticated, it means we don’t know if the message is coming from the person who appears to be sending it.
What to do?
When an email is marked as not authenticated, be careful about replying or downloading any attachments.
If you know the sender, you can contact the person and make sure the email has been sent by that person.

Why the Price?
- We are the most secure email service based on an analysis of security features. The price of our service reflects what we deliver to our users.
- As we are self-funded, we have no choice except to charge users the real cost of encrypted email because we can not reduce the cost with government financing.
- We do not use cloud storage.
CTemplar is Self-funded
Providing an encrypted email service costs money. Some companies like Gmail and Yahoo provide free email services because they collect and sell your personal information. We are the only self-funded encrypted email that will never accept corporate or government funding. For example, Tutanota is funded by the European Union and Protonmail is funded by the Swiss Government and a billion dollar VC corporation. Our service costs more money because we can not decrease the cost with government investment.
We feel it is important that your email service always be separate from your Government.
Concerns About Financing
If a government or company had financial control over CTemplar, we would have to comply with their explicit demands. Governments want something in return for their investment and your personal data is very valuable to them. In fact, any encrypted email service fails in its mission, if it isn’t independently financed.
CTemplar is the only “End to End Encrypted” email service not funded by the EU or US Government.
We Do Not Use A Cloud Server
Your data is saved on Icelandic servers, this puts your data within Icelandic privacy laws which is the best location in the world for your data, Read more about the protection Iceland offers. Because we use physical servers in Iceland we are not able to reduce our price using cheap cloud storage. We feel this is necessary so our users can be certain what laws apply to their data.
If you like our work and would like to help keep our lights on, please consider paying for a membership. If you can’t afford our membership, we are still happy and honored to have you here.
And, as always, if something is not working or you would like to make a suggestion, please send us a message to “[email protected]” and give us a chance to improve.
The CTemplar Team
Some criminals profit from sending emails with viruses or with scams to innocent people. Their success depends on sending out as many emails as they can, to increase the odds of success. Their success depends on the email arriving on the Inbox, too. The ability to send an email and have it go to the receivers inbox, without going to SPAM, is valuable. As we don’t want any users to send SPAM email from our platform and we have no way to read any emails that arrive or are sent through our platform, we had to place sending limits on our platform.
However, this solution is constantly being refined and new methods might be developed to further reduce the chance of malicious emails of arriving in our users’ Inboxes. Until then, some of our users might experience some issues when sending lots of messages.
If you have any issue/suggestions or would like to submit any feedback, please contact our support team [email protected]

We are all friends who built this service because we love it. Your account can only be stolen if someone gets access to both your username and password. This can only happen if you have given your password to someone else or you have some malicious key logging malware installed on your computer without your knowledge.
Key logging malware is not common and most anti-virus; cyber security programs will protect you from the vast majority of these types of attacks. We also provide an on screen keyboard when you login to your account if you want perfect protection against key logging malware. Key logging software tracks your key strokes and when you use an on screen keyboard it’s not possible for this type of malware to detect what you input.
On an additional note: A CTemplar team member will never ask you for your password. Your password is hashed/salted on your computer so even we do not know it and it’s not possible for us to reverse the hash/salt process to discover it.
If you are conscious about your email security and concerned about your email privacy then you are at the right place.
Other email services, such as Gmail only encrypt via the wire that is really not a secure solution. CTemplar provides a safe and secure platform for sending emails and sharing files by using 4096-bit end-to-end encryption.
CTemplar provides the greatest level of data protection.
The end to end encryption is done when you send an email from one CTemplar account to another CTemplar account; however, when you send email from CTemplar to a non CTemplar account (e.g: gmail, yahoo, outlook) then the content will be sent in plain text to other end, but in CTemplar account it will be still in encrypted form.
If you want to send an encrypted email to a non CTemplar account, then we have another feature, called `Encryption to non CTemplar’.
Referring to the handing of encryption, when you sign up, your public and private encryption keys are generated, and private key is protected using your password. Anyone can send you an encrypted email using your public key to encrypt data and then you can only decrypt that message using your private key.
Your private key is only accessible to you, and on top of that, your password is required to unlock that private key. We don’t store your password anywhere; we send an irreversible hash of the password to the back-end. So only you have the access to your password, and only you can decrypt your content while using your private key.
Another question is how you see the plain content when you login and open an email from your CTemplar inbox.
When you login while using your password, a hash of your password is re-created and sent to back-end for login authentication, after authentication, back-end returns your private key along with your emails. Thus, in your browser we get the encrypted data from back-end. In order to decrypt that data, we first decrypt your private key using your password, and then decrypt your email content with that decrypted private key. You can check your network traffic response in order to confirm that everything is secure and encrypted.
Our website code is open source, if you want, you can check it yourself here: https://github.com/CTemplar/webclient#encryption.
Our system sends `end to end encrypted` emails.
Your emails are by default encrypted using your public key, and only you can decrypt those emails using your private key, your private key is protected using your password.
Your password is stored as non reversible hash on server, so only you know your actual password, and no one else can decrypt your data.
We use 4096 bit end-to-end encryption which prevents anyone, even the one who is monitoring the network, from reading and viewing the private conversations, emails, shared files etc.
What makes an end-to-end encryption so special is the fact that you have full control over your privacy, including who reads your private messages.
